Inequality and Living Wages in Latin America

With persistently high levels of poverty and inequality, Latin America is considered the most unequal region in the world. This course explores the economic, political, social and geographic origins of poverty and inequality in Latin American countries. It also studies efforts to address the problem by governments, non-governmental organizations, the international community, religious groups and activists. Students delve more deeply into these issues during a global intensive experience at the end of the course, which provides a case study of one Latin American country. By reflecting on the Latin American experience, students gain insights that can be applied to the United States, where inequality is on the rise.
