Catalog description

Cultural curiosity and literary expression align in intellectually provocative ways that deepen our understanding of the interplay between self and place. Examines the ways in which conceptions of individual and national identity and cultural environments inform each other. Students read and analyze modern travel writing to learn literary strategies that they then employ when reflecting upon and documenting their experiences as individuals studying the culture of a place. Learning activities include engaging with a variety of creative nonfiction writing and creating personal narratives.
