English Verbal Skills for International Scholars

Catalog description

Helps international graduate students (prospective ITAs) as well as other graduate students or visiting scholars at ASU improve their spoken English (pronunciation and fluency). Helps familiarize students with American classroom culture and helps them become effective classroom teachers. Each student receives an individual pronunciation assessment to help him or her focus on areas needing improvement. There is direct instruction and practice of pronunciation (e.g., sound, stress, rhythm, intonation). By participating in and leading class discussions, by working in small groups or pairs and by preparing for videotaped presentations, students improve English fluency.
