Catalog description

Builds on the skills developed in previous coursework. Further explores Savile Row bespoke tailoring techniques with a focus on handmaking and finishing of the double-breasted (DB) blazer. Outcomes include learning the skills needed to construct bespoke tailored garments. Introduces students to the techniques required to finish the blazer. Practices the stages of making by shaping the front edge and lapel, then adding the facing and perfecting the point of a peak lapel. Studies hand-finishing the side seam and vents, crafting a shoulder line, adding the collar and pitching the final position of the sleeves. Students also learn to hand-make buttonholes and execute hand-finishing techniques by hand-felling linings and stab-stitching the edges to secure the finished garment for pressing. This course is intensive on the hands, but trains the fingers through repetition of hand-stitching in the authentic practice of Savile Row bespoke tailoring.
