Builds on the skills developed in previous coursework. Further explores Savile Row bespoke tailoring techniques with a focus on cutting and fitting. The outcome is to learn the necessary skills to design, cut and construct bespoke-tailored garments. Introduces the jacket pattern and techniques to build structure into the garment with canvassing. Studies stages of fit through pattern cutting, anatomical points on the human body, taking measurements, striking the pattern onto cloth with inlays, and the creation of a 'pocket baste' of the blazer in the actual cloth, as part of the final submission with fit comments. Students learn to identify problems with fit, and understand correct postural balance and sleeve pitching. Trains the eye to observe fit through landmark points on the body, and trains the fingers through repetition of hand stitching in the authentic practice of Savile Row bespoke tailoring.
