Covers machine knitting and fully fashioned knitwear. Students learn the basic components of a domestic knitting machine and how to use one. Discusses the differences between wovens, cut and sew knits, and fully fashioned knitwear. Students learn basic stitches including knit, purl, moss, ribbing, cables, bobbles and lace work. Covers techniques for casting on/binding off, increasing and decreasing, tension, and shaping fully fashioned knits. Students create a series of swatches using different techniques. Offers insight into calculating materials and creating knitwear technical designs, leading to an applied application of these lessons in the final garment.
