EPICS Gold Feasibility and Planning

Catalog description

First in a sequence of two one-credit service-learning courses, this course brings together students from all engineering, computer science and construction disciplines, along with majors across ASU, including sustainability, business, liberal arts and the sciences, to work on interdisciplinary teams. Students participate in a weekly 50-minute lecture focused on human-centered design and a weekly 1-hour, 15-minute team-based recitation dedicated to project development. Each Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) team consists of six to eight students who collaborate to design, build, test and implement solutions for long-term projects that address real-world challenges faced by nonprofit community partners. Projects integrate engineering, technology, computing, sustainability, business and related perspectives to deliver impactful, community-centered outcomes. Effective interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to project success and is a central component of the course experience.
