Critical study of narratives relating/responding to the conquest of the Americas from the fifteenth century to the present. Addresses conquest narratives that reflect the Spanish colonization period (1510-1810) and the United States colonization period (1848-1965) in the Southwest. Chosen texts illuminate themes related to the nature of colonial relationships, notions of barbarie/civilization and empire building
