Narrating the Archives

Catalog description
Explores what it means to tell stories that emerge from various archival collections. Students read scholarship produced by individuals who have studied archival materials and look at the various ways in which these narratives have been crafted by what is present and what is absent. Specific focus on the archival holdings of Arizona or the broader U.S. Southwest. Through response papers, in-class discussions and guest lectures, prepares students for scholarly inquiry, community engagement and the production of a final project that incorporates archival holdings known or unknown, and tells the story of that archive in new and interesting ways.
