Studies how writers deal with the complicated ways people create, circulate and understand meaning in the world. Examines methods to develop research problems and questions, design research projects, and conduct, read and evaluate research in the areas of writing, rhetoric and literacy. Through learning about and engaging various forms of research, helps students investigate professional and cultural viewpoints on research that have made them historically controversial and significant to addressing contested public issues.
