Introduces the field of health humanities. Through readings in cultural studies of literature and other media, history of medicine, bioethics, disability studies, cross-cultural and global health, and related scholarly areas, introduces some of the fundamental challenges and debates in this growing interdisciplinary field. Also addresses questions of medical professional ethics and teaches structural awareness of the sociocultural aspects of health and health care.
