Catalog description

Synthesizes theoretical frameworks and practical methodologies for conducting rigorous applied research in immersive experience design. Explores how humans interact with hybrid physical-virtual environments through a comprehensive research framework structured around principles, tools, practices and implementation. Covers qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research strategies while introducing tools for data collection, analysis and visualization relevant to immersive technologies and spatial computing. Through iterative design cycles, students engage in prototype development, user testing and impact assessments, refining their work based on research insights. Emphasizes evidence-based design, empowering students to conceptualize, design and assess immersive experiences while considering both user experience and broader societal impact. Students develop a practice-based immersive experience project that demonstrates the application of research findings to creative, interactive systems.
