Catalog description

Introduces the fundamental concepts and practical applications of information security. Students learn the CIA Triad; analyze real-world security incidents; and study the basics of operating systems, file systems, networks and cryptography. Key topics include major cyber threats such as social engineering, malware and ransomware, along with hands-on exercises using security tools. Also addresses data privacy, copyright, digital ethics and security policies in real-world contexts. Finally, students explore incident response and chain of custody, and gain introductory experience in digital forensics through file deletion and recovery exercises. Combining theory with practice, this course prepares students for advanced study in security and forensics.
