Catalog description

Focuses on inventive approaches to the development and realization of textiles and surface manipulation for creative costume design and making. Students in this mixed-media course learn about a full spectrum of materiality from craft processes to cutting edge bio-materials. Framed by a series of key principles that pave the way toward a more sustainable material future, those techniques champion radically different approaches. This course asks students to carefully consider the future of textile design and production through research and consideration of the environmental, social and cultural impact of textiles on a global level. A dual emphasis is placed on the innovative use of traditional hand and craft techniques with digital processes to promote the idea of sustaining textile crafts in the future.
