Health Communication Across Contexts

Catalog description

Survey of major theories, frameworks and applied approaches in health communication. Examines how communication shapes health behaviors and decision making; how biological, interpersonal, organizational, digital and societal factors influence health and well-being; and how communication practices contribute to the distribution of health risks and resources across populations. Across seven modules, students explore communication for behavior change, communibiology, health disparities, health literacy, workplace wellness, digital stress and communication-based well-being practices. Through scholarly readings, mini-lectures, discussion boards and applied assignments, students learn to analyze evidence, apply theory to practice and evaluate the complex links between communication and health outcomes.
