A network-based perspective plays an increasingly important role in our understanding of contemporary communication process of which much has shifted from a hierarchical, densely bounded group basis to a personalized, lateral network. Especially, along with the popularity of social media, social networking has become a key term that characterizes our everyday life. Discusses the role of new media technologies in evolving networked society, and how online networks are intertwined with our offline life. Covers theories and computerized methods that help understand online network structure. Includes lectures and discussions on theoretical issues with hands-on exercises of analytic methods.
