Catalog description
Provides a solid overview of current methodologies in foreign/second language teaching and learning, including the World-readiness standards for learning languages and the Proficiency Guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Focuses on current pedagogical trends and theories in several areas of second language acquisition, including grammar and vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking, and intercultural competence. Also provides opportunities to obtain practice in creating and adapting instructional materials, preparing and implementing individual lesson plans, written and oral assignments, and exams. Focuses on discussing student diversity in today's classrooms and differences between heritage and second language learners. Students have the opportunity to research a topic of their interest. Course consists of lectures, discussion, hands-on experience to encourage meaningful and collaborative learning.
