Provides an overview of gender diversity, including understanding the identities and experiences of transgender, nonbinary and gender diverse people (TNB) as they pertain to clinical settings in counseling psychology. Focuses on the clinical modalities and counseling theories essential for providing competent, affirmative care to transgender and nonbinary (TNB) populations. Reviews issues related to counseling TNB clients including issues related to gender identity development, coming out, minority stress, family and relationship issues, and intersectionality, as well as the core tenets of affirmative counseling with transgender and nonbinary clients.
