Addiction Group Counseling

Catalog description

Offers an overview of the role and efficacy of group therapy in substance abuse treatment. Students learn about the different types of substance abuse treatment groups; screening and criteria for groups; group development and stages of treatment; and group leadership skills and techniques (e.g., motivational interviewing). Through weekly discussions, journal reflections and experiential activities, students learn the various techniques used in group substance abuse treatments.
