Fundamentals in Scientific Proposal Writing

Catalog description

Prepares students with an overview of scientific proposal writing for biomedical research. Students prepare a proposal based on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) F31 fellowship application. Eligibility for NIH fellowships is not required, as other fellowship opportunities can be considered. Students work on developing the significance of a biomedical problem, specific aims and research approach. Students read each other's work and provide constructive feedback. Also designed to align with the ASU Charter, noting that 'ASU is a comprehensive public research university, measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves.'
