Catalog description

Conducts in-depth explorations into fabric dyeing methods that utilize natural and synthetic dye stuffs. Through immersion dyeing and direct application processes, students gain expertise in the technical, conceptual and historical aspects of dye practice. Focuses on hands-on technical processes that incorporate sampling, experimenting, and research, and results in a final project. Pays attention throughout to the historical, economic, societal and ecological concerns enmeshed with the processes at hand--nothing is neutral; everything comes from somewhere.
