Covers popular art forms of animated films as they relate to the art of the west as well as their greater global context. Begins with a brief look at the importance of storytelling in human culture before turning to the roots of animation; the invention of moving animated pictures in the early 20th century; the rise of major animation studios like Walt Disney, Fleischer Studios and Warner Bros.; television animation; foreign animation classics; and the recent work of independent animators.
