Catalog description

Introduces the history and the methodologies of museums with particular emphasis on art museums and how they function in a contemporary context. Examines the ways in which museums have changed over time and the roles they have played in the construction of national and ethnic identities. Also explores recent controversies over exhibitions, collection practices and funding. Students learn about the many professional paths to pursue in the field of museum and heritage studies including curatorial, conservation, education, development/fundraising, marketing, public programming and other job opportunities.
