Catalog description

Covers the practical and scientifically based knowledge of building construction with a specific focus on structural systems. Begins with an overview of the relationship between construction practices and spatial articulation emerging from the Industrial Revolution, tracing their development to the present day. Provides a brief introduction to the scientific principles guiding these developments, statics, material science and thermodynamics. Reviews contemporary construction systems and practices including site work and foundations, bearing walls, frames and building enclosure.
