Surveys the major trends, themes and genres of modern Arabic literature in translation. Provides a foundational knowledge of modern literature in the Arabic language. Focuses on continuity and change, cultural diversity and multiplicity in the Middle East, and the social, religious and historical aspects of modern Arab culture. No knowledge of Arabic language is required for this course.
