Asian American Immigrant Health

Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial group in the United States, with an increase of 45% from 2000 to 2010. From approximately 18 million Asian Americans in the U.S. in 2010, it is projected that there will be more than 40.6 million Asian Americans by the year 2050, comprising 9.2 percent of the total population in the United States. Despite their longevity and rapid population growth, Asian Americans have received relatively little attention in the public health literature. Drawing from multiple disciplines including (but not limited to) Asian Pacific American studies, sociology, demography, public health and public policy, students will be introduced to theories, methodological approaches and empirical findings to better understand contemporary Asian American immigrant health in the United States.
