Edge and Cloud Computing for XR
Arizona State University Digital Immersion · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Explores the design and deployment of scalable, low-latency extended reality (XR) systems using edge and cloud computing technologies. Provides hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures, real-time data processing and distributed systems tailored for XR applications such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR). Topics include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), automation, edge inference, network optimization and security in XR environments. Through projects and case studies, students develop the skills to build immersive, responsive XR systems that leverage the power of modern edge-cloud infrastructure. Course is designed for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in engineering, computing, and media technologies.
