Examines Critical Indigenous Research Methodologies (CIRM), a framework that centers Indigenous knowledge systems, epistemologies and ethical protocols in the research process. Explores the historical and contemporary critiques of mainstream research methodologies and examines how Indigenous scholars and communities are reshaping research practices to be more inclusive, respectful and aligned with Indigenous worldviews. Emphasizes decolonizing research methods, community-based participatory research (CBPR) and the importance of relationships, reciprocity and accountability in Indigenous research. Students engage in case studies of research conducted by and for Indigenous communities, gaining an understanding of how these methodologies contribute to self-determination and sovereignty.
