Explores the development of U.S. federal Indian policy and its impact on Native Nations from the 19th century to today. Students examine major policy eras--including removal, assimilation, allotment, termination and self-determination--and analyze how these shifts affected Indigenous governance, land and sovereignty. The course highlights key legislation and considers how Native communities have responded to and shaped federal policy over time.
