AdvSem-Severe Persistent Mental Illness

Catalog description

This course will cover working with individuals living with severe and persistent mental health needs. We will focus on the various settings in which individuals living with severe and persistent mental health needs interface, including but not limited to inpatient and forensic settings. Moreover, we will evaluate treatment options and discuss clinical material related to individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions. Last, this course will evaluate the biopsychosocial and cultural implications for individuals living with these diagnoses. Student Learning Objectives 1. Students will be able to use the biopsychosocial model to identify the factors leading to severe and persistent mental health diagnoses. 2. Students will be able to identify and evaluate treatment options for individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions. 3. Students will be able to identify cultural and societal factors related to the diagnosis and treatment of severe and persistent mental health conditions.
