Introduction to Psychotherapy Theory and Practice

Catalog description

This course is required for incoming students who do not have a recent Bachelor’s degree in psychology. Designed to be taken just prior to or at the beginning of a student’s first quarter, this course is intended to familiarize the student with concepts, theories, terms and individuals of major historical importance in the areas of personality theory, developmental psychology and abnormal psychology. The student will be provided with a broad overview of the field of psychology with the primary goal of exposing students to ideas that they will learn in greater depth in the graduate program. Within each topic, the relationship between diversity (in culture, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) and the field of psychology will be explored. Critical thinking skills as they can be applied to the field of psychology will be a significant focus of attention.
