Cultural Humility

Catalog description

Cultural Humility (Tervalon & Murray-Garcia, 1998) is a self-reflective practice of curiosity, openness, and understanding of cultural identities, relational dynamics, experiences, and power beyond our own cultural experiences and identities. Students will learn the history of this approach, relationship to healthcare, development of tools to open awareness, and applications of these ideas and tools for the field of psychology, relationships, power dynamics and beyond. Collaborative and individual work to expand understanding of systems dynamics, power, privilege, bias, and prejudice will be integrated into this course.
