This course examines state, national, and international policies that influence healthcare delivery for individuals, families, communities, and organizations, with attention to the legal and ethical implications of policy decisions and the impact of political activity on healthcare systems. Emphasis is placed on how policies shape access, quality, and outcomes, particularly for historically marginalized and underserved populations. Students will analyze the role of professional health organizations in political advocacy to advance policies that promote health equity, social justice, and the elimination of health disparities. Through critical inquiry and applied learning, students will explore strategies to influence policy development and implementation in ways that foster equitable, person-centered, and socially just healthcare systems.
