Catalog description

This course highlights the critical role of the dietitian as a key member of the interdisciplinary team addressing weight management. Students will address topics such as personal weight bias and deepen their understanding of weight management techniques through a multidimensional approach. It focuses on the interplay of health behaviors, evidence-based strategies, and theoretical frameworks for achieving sustainable outcomes in diverse populations. Students will explore the physiological, psychological, and social factors contributing to weight regulation, delving into evidence-based approaches such as nutritional interventions, physical activity, pharmacotherapy, and metabolic surgeries. Emphasis will be placed on counseling techniques, including motivational interviewing, behavior change strategies, and cultural competency, to foster individualized care.
