Reimagining the Canon

Catalog description

Reconsiders the place of a humanities canon in the 21st-century by shifting the emphasis of the canon from artifacts to discourses. By reexamining culture and canonical formation in our common era, students will thus consider how deconstructing dominant and restrictive identity categories like whiteness, patriarchy, heteronormativity, and anthropocentrism can help them to reimagine and rebuild more inclusive strands of inquiry that promote social change and social justice. Areas explored may include Critical Race Theory, Critical Whiteness Studies, Disability Studies, Decolonial Studies, Feminist and Queer Theory, Indigenous Studies, and Ecocriticism.
