Catalog description

This class introduces practitioners to the forms and functions of educational research. We explore and examine the following topics: types of educational research with accompanying illustrations from the research literature; the broad differences between qualitative and quantitative research designs and methods; and our own inquiry questions that will drive the teacher research project required for graduation. The course places a specific focus on teacher and action research, providing an introduction to methods useful for the type of classroom inquiry suitable for the Research Capstone course. This course should be taken in the semester prior to the Capstone course. Students should register for this course within the final three terms of their program unless their advisor indicates otherwise.
