This course examines the complexities of human intimacy, relational structures, and crisis intervention across diverse cultural, spiritual, and familial contexts. Students will explore the unique challenges faced by interfaith couples, the evolving discourse on human sexuality, and the urgent realities of intimate partner violence. Emphasis is placed on cultivating a nuanced understanding of relational dynamics within varied intimate and familial structures, with attention to multicultural, systemic, and embodied perspectives. The curriculum integrates theoretical study with embodied practice, highlighting how touch can activate neurophysiology and states of change, linking somatic awareness to therapeutic and relational outcomes. Students will also learn to recognize and address erotic transference and countertransference, paying particular attention to how aesthetic values and perceptions of the body inform therapeutic relationships. Through lectures, case studies, and experiential learning, participants will gain tools to integrate theory and practice in contexts of intimacy, crisis, and healing. The course prepares students to work ethically and effectively with individuals and couples, fostering resilience, safety, and growth in diverse relational landscapes.
