Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of social justice issues in reproductive health and perinatal care, including racism and systemic oppression, power imbalance, health care inequity, family planning, infertility, third-party reproduction, adoption, abortion, reproductive rights, and exacerbating risk factors for underserved populations. Through a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens, the course will examine the critical roles of advocacy and integrated care in improving healthcare outcomes for birthing individuals and new parents. Students will analyze the contributions of various medical providers, allied health professionals, alternative and complementary interventions, and social supports in forming a comprehensive and effective integrated care team.
