Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to facilitate students’ beginning competency in providing direct therapeutic services to clients and in receiving clinical supervision before the start of their internship. The instructor provides supervision once a week during class. The course may be taken up to three times. Performance expectations for each student will be built upon the prior quarter’s work. Within this developmental learning context, students will receive feedback and instruction regarding such clinical issues as: . Individual, relational and family assessment and diagnosis . Integration of theory and practice . Use of appropriate and ethical intervention techniques . Intervention strategies and multicultural issues as they arise . Students will also begin to look at issues related to the self-of-the-therapist, and will discuss, in supervision, any concerns surrounding countertransference and other issues that may impact their work with clients. Pre-internship questions will also be addressed including preparing and interviewing for internships.
