Catalog description

The focus of this course is to introduce students to a range of research approaches used in the drama therapy field: qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, and arts-based research methods. Students become familiar with current published drama therapy theory and research and how to critically evaluate that research. Students learn research methodologies and strategies that are best suited for the field of drama therapy. Examination of the ethical guidelines for conducting research, issues of diversity in research, and familiarity with the research process are addressed. All students prepare for the experience of researching and writing a master’s thesis if they elect to do so by being provided with an orientation to the fundamentals of research design with a focus on creative arts therapy and an understanding of the role of empirical literature in clinical practice.
