Catalog description

This course is an exploration of trauma and its manifestations within the context of systemic therapy. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the lived experience of trauma, its treatments, and the dynamics within abusive systems. The course emphasizes a strengths-based perspective, with a focus on resilience and recovery. Alongside this, the course provides essential knowledge on the types of abuse, their symptoms, and ethical approaches in addressing intimate partner violence and child maltreatment. Emphasis is also given to professional responsibilities, such as mandated reporting laws, and the utilization of community resources for intervention and prevention. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: A.2. Theoretical Approaches, A.5. Neuroscience, and B.5. Assessment, Appraisal & Evaluation.
