Catalog description

This course introduces students to art therapy assessment tools, their reliability and validity, and critical review processes for selecting and interpreting assessments based on client development and cultural identities. Students will learn to identify individual and familial strengths, challenges, and treatment concerns, informing treatment planning while adhering to ethical and legal documentation practices. The course also covers major mental illness classifications (DSM/ICD), the diagnostic process, art-based indicators, psychopharmacology, and the influence of culture, society, and crisis on mental health, incorporating insights from neuroscience and evolving conceptual frameworks
