Catalog description
This course addresses assessment and treatment planning from a wide array of perspectives, including biological, developmental, cultural, and systemic. This course emphasizes the importance of viewing psychopathology not only from the individual and symptom-oriented perspective of the DSM-5 but also from a broader, contextual, systemic viewpoint that acknowledges the significant roles of developmental milestones, familial patterns, and sociocultural influences. Students will acquire skills in integrating DSM-5 diagnostic skills into systemic assessments using reliable and valid tools. They will learn to apply this assessment data effectively to develop treatment plans appropriate for specific practice contexts, including medical settings that require multi-disciplinary collaboration and private practice. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: B.5. Assessment, Appraisal & Evaluation; B.6. Mental Health, Psychopathology & Diagnosis.
