This course, framed through a decolonizing perspective, offers a comprehensive analysis of the developmental tasks across the lifespan and their relationship with family dynamics. This course delves into the interconnectedness of personal, social, and familial development, highlighting the influence of various life events, social conditions, cultural factors, and neurobiological elements. Students will gain insights into the effects of personal and social insecurity, social stress, low educational levels, inadequate housing, malnutrition, poverty, and deprivation on human development. The course also covers aspects of childbirth, child rearing, parenting, stepparenting, marriage, divorce, blended families, long-term care, end-of-life, and grief. A critical focus is given to the ethical considerations in serving diverse groups, cultural competency, intersectionality, and the integration of community resources. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: A.3. Lifespan Development within Social Systems.
