Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth examination of the organizational and administrative responsibilities associated with managing athletic training programs and healthcare services. Emphasizing evidence-based strategies and leadership practices, students will develop the skills necessary to effectively oversee physical, human, and financial resources while ensuring equity and compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. Key areas of focus include: Strategic planning, assessment, and management of athletic training facilities in accordance with current healthcare standards and regulations. Budget development, financial management, and fiscal accountability within athletic training operations. Risk management strategies to protect patients, organizations, and the community. Navigation of multi payer insurance systems and healthcare classifications, including value-based care models. Development, implementation, and revision of policies and procedures to guide daily athletic training operations. Application of health informatics for clinical decision-making, documentation, medical coding (ICD and CPT), and secure patient data management. Use of quality assurance and quality improvement systems to enhance patient care outcomes. Leadership in human resource management, including staff recruitment, training, and supervision. Compliance with legal and ethical standards, such as HIPAA, FERPA, and OSHA regulations, in healthcare delivery. Through case studies, practical assignments, and project-based learning, students will gain comprehensive experience in managing athletic training services. By the end of this course, students will be prepared to assume leadership roles and effectively manage healthcare operations in diverse athletic training environments.
