Racism: Beyond Black and White

Tragic events in 2020 engendered a realization of the racial divides and systemic racism that plagues the United States. Cultural ignorance and the lack of diversified institutions not only existed before the protests and riots after the murder of George Floyd or the COVID-19 global pandemic, but they long existed toward other cultures and ethnicities - beyond black and white. This course introduces students to the dichotomous pairs of prejudice within our society who have faced racial transgressions in many domains of our society, including a healthcare system designed to care all, despite race, religion, or even political ideologies. Students will learn about the genealogy of racism in our country, from cultures to political ideologies, bringing each individual to their own societal awakening. By the end of the course, students will not only be more knowledgeable on the inequities that still plague our society, but they will come out with an understanding and respect for the differences in the fabric of our country.
