History of Hip Hop

Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the evolution of the hip hop industry, music, and culture. It will survey the historical and cultural complexities that influence the hip hop music industry. The time period focused upon is between the nineteen-seventies and early twenty-first century. The topics of sexism and racism will be covered within the historical situations that are presented, and as they relate to artists who are African-American, Hispanic, and Women. (UC, CSU, AVC)
