Catalog description

The course addresses health issues confronting ethnic/racial minority groups politically as well as socioeconomically disadvantaged in America. The course is not intended to be a comprehensive treatment of all pertinent health problems affecting minorities, but will address some of the more salient health concerns. The purposes of the course are: 1) to identify selected health problems affecting specific target groups and suggest possible strategies for alleviating them; 2) to provide a forum to discuss the social, economic, and political factors that impact health, health status, and health care; 3) to discuss culturally relevant and sensitive strategies and models to prevent and minimize diseases in minority communities; and 4) to develop policy recommendations that may positively impact the health of minority communities.
