Catalog description

Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL C1000 or C1000H. This course is focused on literary works and forms of media that depict futuristic worlds, visionary scientific endeavor, and conflicts between humans, aliens, and sentient technology. Students will explore the history, emerging trends, and contemporary issues in science fiction, including power and ethics, paradigms of reality, and human psychology in a futuristic environment, as well as examples of dystopic fiction and art that relate to or comment on social issues and events of the present. (UC, CSU, AVC)
