Catalog description

Limitations on Enrollment: Formal admission to the Paramedic Certificate Program; annual physical exam and TB clearance; current immunizations; personal liability insurance; background clearance, drug screening; and current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification. Prerequisites: EMT 121, EMT 122, EMT 125. This course prepares paramedic students to assess and manage obstetric, neonatal, and pediatric emergencies in the prehospital environment. Topics include maternal complications of pregnancy and delivery, fetal monitoring basics, neonatal resuscitation (following NRP guidelines), pediatric assessment strategies, and the treatment of common pediatric illnesses and injuries. Emphasis is placed on anatomical and physiological differences in pediatric patients, age-specific interventions, family-centered care, and communication with caregivers. Clinical decision-making is reinforced through scenario-based instruction and simulation aligned with national paramedic education standards. (CSU, AVC)
